The Door of My Mouth

I admit that as the voting day to choose my name is getting closer, I am getting a little bit excited…

And a little bit nervous.

I’m going to be honest here…

It’s not the easiest thing leaving the selection of my name in the minds of people…

Many of which I will never meet:D

I have heard some of the things that can come out of people’s mouths…

Some are funny…

Some are nice…

Some are witty…

Some are encouraging…

And…

Some words that are spoken are just plain mean and designed to hurt.

Just like we horses can take a chunk out of the hide of another horse with our teeth, you humans can take a chunk out of someone with nothing but…

Words.

Other times, just like we horses can use our teeth to help comfort and ease an itchy spot on the back of the neck of another horse, you humans can say words that really encourage and build others up.

How is it that the same mouth can build up AND tear down?

Kinda crazy, hey?

I wonder what it would be like if we only used what comes out of our mouth for good…for encouraging…for building others up instead of ripping them apart?

It would sure be a different world wouldn’t it?

A better one.

And a less painful one:D

I have been on the receiving end of sharp teeth…

And they hurt…

A lot!

Other times, when I get upset with one of my friends, I am the one inflicting the pain as I strike out at them with my mouth with full intentions of leaving a welt. It’s not pretty…

My thoughts are quite serious today as I have been thinking about this…

Yes, even horses are capable of serious thoughts:D

If I am going to change, I think I am going to need some help…

Did you know that there is a verse in the Bible that helps with this? It is found in Psalm 141:3.

It says, “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

What about you? What do you use the words of your mouth for?  Do you help others with your words or do you hurt them?  How can you do more building up and less tearing down?  What do you think of asking God to put a guard on your lips?
