Did you know that we horses like to hide?
In fact, we are quite good at it when we put our minds to it.
There is a story that is told on the ranch where I am growing up of a group of horses that were especially skilled at hiding!
So much so that they had their humans looking and searching for a really long time.
These horses outsmarted them at every turn! They even silenced the locating devices that had been put on them to make them easier to find!
How did this band of clever hiders manage to outwit their humans?
By hiding in a clump of spruce trees so thick that the humans didn’t think a horse could go through it!
But were they ever wrong!
In the midst of the tangled bushes of this evergreen grove – just off the trail where the riders were riding past them – the horses stood silently…waiting patiently for the searchers to give up looking in the horse fence and expand their search to outside the fence.
And you know what?
It almost worked.
Minutes turned into hours…yes, hours! Bet you never knew we could be so patient and still:D
One horse swished their tail, and that flicker of movement caught the eye of a rider who just happened to be passing by at that moment. He stood peering through the tangled branches and saw that this group of trees seemed to be growing legs and tails.
You know, some hiding is enjoyable! But, there is another type of hiding that isn’t so much fun…
It’s the kind of hiding that can happen when you realize that you aren’t perfect…or that you look different than others around you…or when someone meanly teases you about something…or you have an accident of some sort…or you don’t measure up to a standard of what others say you have to be…or when make a mistake…or when you walk past a group and they stop talking, but as soon as you are past they begin whispering and laughing…or someone sends you a cruel message…or someone shoves you around…or you are ignored…
Have you ever gone through anything like that? Have you ever felt like you have to hide?
In fact, I am right now.
That is one of the reasons why I have been so quiet for a while.
I have been hiding…
So, over the next little while I am going to take courage and take the next step and share my story with you on how I found the courage…
To come out of hiding.
It isn’t easy, though. Thankfully, I am not alone. There is One who hears my cry for help when I am in trouble.
