How I balance school and riding!

It isn’t easy to balance school work, a social life, and riding. As a university student, I have a tedious workload. It can be challenging to keep up with training and stay on top of your schoolwork. Today’s post is gonna be all about how I balance my school work with my riding and training.

Tip number 1 is to have a planner. I find it extremely helpful to have a planner. I write all of my assignment due dates and testing days from the syllabus into my planner. I color code it by having all of my due dates in pink and everything I need to get done in the day in black. I also create weekly goals so it’s easier for me to visualize what I need to achieve each week. Having a planner has helped me get all of my assignments done in time and stay on top of my game. It is great for when I have upcoming horse shows, I can get all of my work that’s due during the time of the show completed ahead of time so I don’t have to worry about it during the show and I can focus on showing.

This brings us to tip number two which is to not procrastinate. Whether that is using your time wisely to not waiting until the last minute to get your homework done. While at the barn, whether it may be tempting to sit and talk to your friends in the viewing room or just hang out with the horses, it is important when you have a heavy workload to not dilly dally while at the barn. I suggest if you want to talk to your friends, do it while you are doing something productive like tack cleaning or grooming your horse so that you can get home at a decent hour.

Tip number three is to utilize all your free time. For some horse shows, the drive is over an hour-long, which is a lot of extra time that can be used to do homework or get some studying in. I also try to bring my laptop with me to the shows so that when I have some free time while I’m waiting for my class to go, or while I’m watching my friends go, I can get some extra studying in. You can also get a good amount of work done if you need to wait on someone to go home from the barn.

It is important to get schoolwork done efficiently and well, as well as, get all of the riding training accomplished. I hope these tips help you in accomplishing your work better!
